Photo Workshop: Orcas and Whales in Norway
13–17 November 2026

Discover the fascinating world of whales on this November photography trip to northern Norway.

Orcas, humpback whales and fin whales travel long distances from their breeding grounds to reach the waters of the Skervøy fjord, where they spend the winter. This is where we may have the chance to observe dozens, or even hundreds, of whales during the trip.

In addition to cetaceans, this journey will also offer great opportunities to photograph different bird species, spectacular landscapes and, with a little luck, the northern lights. An intense northern adventure, sure to leave lasting memories.

Dates: 13–17 November 2026

Duration: 5 days, including 3 photography days

Who is it for: this whale safari in northern Norway takes place aboard the Sylvkallen boat and is therefore suitable for almost all participants. From the boat’s deck, it is easy to observe and photograph the whales safely and with respect for the animals. The boat will be privately reserved for our group, allowing us to dedicate all available daylight hours to photography.

Number of participants: approximately 15 to 20 people.

Accommodation: accommodation in 2–3 person rooms at the Reisafjord Hotel. A single room is available for an additional fee of €200.

Activities: the price includes three photography days aboard the Sylvkallen boat.

Equipment: the recommended equipment list will be shared closer to the departure date.

Meals: the price includes breakfast, lunch or a packed lunch, and dinner.

Registration: confirmed registrations can be made directly through the online shop or by email at info@kuusamonaturephotography.fi. The trip will be confirmed if a minimum of 15 participants is reached 30 days before departure.

Day 1: Arrival in Tromsø
Arrival in the evening and check-in at the hotel.

Day 2: From Tromsø to Skervøy
Early morning departure from Tromsø aboard the Sylvkallen, in order to reach the whale-watching areas around sunrise.

We will photograph whales throughout the available daylight hours before reaching Skervøy at the end of the day. Check-in at the Reisafjord Hotel, followed by dinner at the hotel.

Day 3: Searching for whales around Skervøy
Departure in the morning around sunrise for a full day at sea. Return to the Reisafjord Hotel around sunset, followed by dinner at the hotel.

Day 4: Return to Tromsø
Departure in the morning around sunrise for another full day at sea. Return to Tromsø in the evening, followed by dinner.

Day 5: Journey home
Departure after breakfast and return home according to each participant’s own schedule.

Payment

A €300 booking deposit is required at the time of registration. This deposit is non-refundable in the event of cancellation by the participant. The remaining balance will be invoiced later and must be paid no later than 45 days before the start of the trip.

If the booking is made less than 30 days before departure, the full amount of the trip will be invoiced immediately after registration.

Insurance

Participants are responsible for their own insurance. Leisure accident insurance is recommended, as well as insurance for photographic equipment.

Cancellation Terms

In the event of cancellation between 45 and 30 days before the start of the trip, the booking deposit will be retained.

In the event of cancellation between 30 and 14 days before the start of the trip, 50% of the total amount will be retained.

In the event of cancellation less than 14 days before the start of the trip, the full trip fee will be retained.

The organiser reserves the right to cancel the trip up to one month before departure. If the trip is cancelled by the organiser, all payments made will be refunded.

Booking

Price: €1,690 incl. VAT. Single room supplement: €200.
The price includes boat trips, accommodation, meals, breakfast and dinner, as well as the services of the guides.

A booking deposit of €300 will be invoiced at the time of registration.

The remaining balance will be invoiced later and must be paid before the start of the trip.

The trip is organised by Suomen Luontomatkailu Oy, a package travel organiser registered with the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority and holding the guarantees required for its activities.
