Enjoy the magnificent winter landscapes of Kuusamo –  photograph Golden Eagles, landscapes of snow-rimed trees and other birds of Oulanka Eagle Hides under the guidance of experienced guides!

In winter, the nature of Kuusamo is covered under a pure white snow cover. The breathtakingly beautiful snow-rimed trees landscapes and actively feeding birds of the Oulanka Eagle Hides are picturesque in the glow of the increasing late winter light.

A pair of Golden Eagles has territory in the Oulanka area and they are starting to prepare for nesting season, but still visit the feeding site regularly. During this  nature photography tour, we will visit the Oulanka Eagle Hides twice and climb to the top of the Kuntivaara or Valtavaara fjells and famous Riisitunturi National park to photograph the lovely snow-rimed trees landscapes and exciting river landscapes of the Oulanka National Park. 

Our experienced guides take you on the real winter adventure to photograph the best birds, wildlife and landscapes of the season! 

Time: 12.-18.1.2026 

Duration: 6 nights.

Target group: The tour is well suited for anyone interested in nature photography, both beginners and those who have taken pictures for a longer period of time. The snow-rimed trees photography excursions will be made with snowshoes in the sinking snow, so attending the tour requires reasonable general fitness.

Group size: Maximum 8 people.

Accommodation: During the trip we will stay in the hotel Kuusamon portti in single rooms. 

Equipment: Everybody should have their own photography equipment and tripod heads. Also decent winter clothes for maximum -30 degrees would be good. Tripod heads and winter clothes are possible to rent in Kuusamo, remember to ask from us beforehand.

Meals: 3 meals per day (breakfast, lunch/picnic lunch, and dinner) except on arrival and departure days. 

Guides: Our professional photography guides Mikko Oivukka, Jarmo Manninen or Anna Välimäki will guide you during the tour.

Price: 2950€. Price includes guiding services, transportation in Kuusamo (from Kuusamo airport to Kuusamo airport), accommodation, meals and seat in our warm and comfortable Oulanka Eagle hides.

Winter birds without hide & river landscapes (Käylänkoski / Myllykoski)

Snowmobile trip to Kuntivaara

  • Snowmobile safari up to Kuntivaara fjell
  • Transport will be arranged with a passenger sleigh pulled by snowmobile

Please note that the schedule may change depending on weather conditions. If the conditions are favorable, there will be opportunities to photograph the Northern Lights in the evenings!

Payments:

Registration is binding after payment of the booking fee of 500 euros. Final payment will be sent by email and it has to be paid 30 days before the starting date.

Insurance:

Participants are responsible for their own insurance. Leisure accident insurance, etc. and insurance of photography equipment are also recommended.

Cancellation policy:

If the cancellation is made later than 45 days, but no later than 30 days before the start of the tour, we will withhold the booking fee (€ 500). If the cancellation is made later than 30 days but no later than 14 days before the start of the tour, we will withhold 50% of the tour fee. If the cancellation is made later than 14 days before the start of the tour, we will withhold the full tour fee.

The organizer has the right to cancel the tour one month before the start of the tour. If the tour is canceled by the organizer, all payments will be refunded.
